Vacuum assisted wet lay can help prevent the presence of voids, caused by air trapping, in the laminate. Voids are reduced and consolidation is improved by applying a vacuum to the part after laying up. The part must be sealed with a plastic film and a vacuum pump used to extract the air. The only additional costs are the vacuum pump and the bagging materials. The method also allows easier removal of potentially hazardous volatiles.
