Resin transfer moulding (RTM)

With RTM, the reinforcement material is laid into a mould with a cavity in the shape of the product. The mould is closed and resin is forced into the cavity, by pressure alone, or with the assistance of an applied vacuum. If necessary the cure can be at an elevated temperature. This method can produce laminates with high fibre density. Moulds for simple shapes will be cheap, but become increasingly costly in machining costs for complex shapes. Pumps for injection and for vacuums are also required.
