Phenolic resins have good elevated temperature capabilities but suffer from the same problems of void formation as polyimide resins. They are required in fire sensitive areas such as aircraft cabins because of their char resistance, low smoke emission, and low emission of toxic substances on burning. The resins tend to be brittle and have low mechanical properties.
