The fibre volume fraction (expressed as a fraction or percent) of cured polymer-matrix composites can be obtained by a number of methods including: matrix digestion, ignition loss, areal weight, and image analysis methods. Image analysis uses digital imaging of a micrograph detailing the fibres and matrix (see picture). These methods generally apply to laminates fabricated from most material forms and processes.
