The shredding or regrinding process has focussed on compound composite such as SMCs or BMCs. This is largely because these materials have wide application in the automotive industry that have stringent recycling targets for vehicles at the end of their lives. The regrinding process is generally used on uncontaminated composites from trim and waste created during the manufacturing process. The shredded materials undergo different degrees of shredding and several more metal separation processes. This materials can then be further treated to separate the fibres and resin or used directly as a filler in new composite materials. The finer the material is ground, the better the finish that can be obtained. Compression and injection moulding of new components using recycled filler often requires simple moulds and high pressures.
