Composites containing polyester, polyamides and other resins systems can be hydrolysed to recover monomers. Hydrolysis is achieved using water and acid/base depending on the resin type. Therefore mixed composite recycling cannot be achieved using hydrolysis. After the hydrolysis process, the fibres still require disposal of and hence, this method is still preferred on unreinforced plastics.
